Did you set a resolution for 2017? If yes, be honest with this question:
If you thought anything below 8, you might not carry through with it. And you won’t be alone. 25% of resolutions made at the eve of New Year, struggle to survive beyond the first week of January and about 60% fall by the wayside by June. Not only the sheer numbers of us but the speed at which we fail at keeping our resolutions is surprising. That is why I suggest, that this year you make a commitment – not a resolution.
Just by the sound of it, a commitment sounds more serious than a resolution. A resolution sounds temporary, with no direction to help us attain the changes we aspire to make. It is nothing more than a whimsical thought or an acknowledgment of guilt over something we know we need to change. A commitment on the other hand, is a path we chart for ourselves to reach for a higher goal or a calling. It demands a course of action to reach that goal.
As you start committing to your goal by taking steps towards it, even small steps, your mood gets a boost and you’re most likely to see it through the year. That release of dopamine in the brain from a small step undertaken well, is all we need to keep moving towards upholding our commitment. If you want to run the 10K race this year, start small by running for 10 minutes everyday. Start small and repeat is the mantra. And before you know it, its become a way of life for you and you have cultivated a habit.
At Forziani, we believe making a commitment is an essential first step towards Mind Control. If you do not have a goal or a commitment, you don’t know what to shoot for. Since this is the time of year when we’re usually in a contemplative mood, reflecting on our past achievements and thinking where we want to head with our careers, our relationships and our health, its crucial to pen it down. So go ahead grab that planner and pen down your commitment. And we’re here to help guide you towards stellar mind control and make small changes that add up to big results over time.
If you can’t nail your exact specific goal, your commitment won’t stand the test of time.
And here’s some good news to wrap it up. as per a Harris poll study, at a six month mark, people who wrote down a new year commitment are 10 times more likely to keep them as people who didn’t pen it down. So get started, stay focussed and go for the kill. I wish you all a wonderful new year! Stay awesome and keep rocking in 2017.
